Slick S.O.S.A. is real good rap artist from Washington, DC who heads a video company that has produced some of the most fascinating rap videos coming out of DC in the social network world. His video, Snakery, is a movie length feature that looks almost as good as a Michael Mann feature with the directing style of David Simon from The Wire tv series. You can find Slick S.O.S.A. in the 2nd issue of Azur Magazine - which will be ready for download around Oct. 18th

I was introduced to a friend of Slick S.O.S.A.s at the Red Lounge on 14th St in Washington.DC. There were associations made between Chris Bo ( SOSAs brother) and a famous rapper called Fat Trel. Fat Trel was signed to Maybach, yet headed his own record label in DC called DC 1135, I believe. Regardless . . .the guy I met, Young, from the Red Lounge said I had got to check out Slick S.O.S.A.. . . SOSA had a movie length video that was similar to watching the Wire tv series or a Michael Mann movie . . .It was that good. Slick had other videos under his belt and his soundcloud was nothing short of radio quality professionalism. I had to meet Slick S.O.S.A. and we finally sat down to converse . . .This is what S.O.S.A had to say . . . Azur Mag: Ok . . .there are a bunch of Slick Sosas on . . .facebook .. .How did you distinguish yourself . . .Did you put like a period . ..or like a . . Is it like an acronym . . . "S" . .period "O" . . .period . ."S" . . period . . ."A" . . period . . .? Slick: True that . . .man . . .everybody got these names . . .Sosa something . . . .You know . .mine . . it stands for an acronym . . .Street . . Orientated . . Street . .Affiliated . . .you know what I'm saying . . so . . .you might could read that Sosa . . but . . .it's an acronym . .you know what I'm saying . . .? Azur Mag: Yeah . . .ok . .that's what I was wondering . . .what it was . . and everything . . .but . .ahh . . .I found like . .three. . .two . .or three different Sosas . . .on facebook . . .and everything . . .I didn't know where you were until I found . . .your soundcloud . . .and then that started rock'n out . . . Slick: Yeah . . . Azur Mag: So . . my next question is . . .Who is Lacosta Sosa . . ? Slick: That's my alter ego . .you know what I'm saying?. . .I've got many little nick names . . but. . .I've been running with the Lacosta Sosa lady . . .and you know . . .it's been kind'a stick'n with me . . .but it's pretty much the same thing . . .it's still Street Orientated . . .Street Affiliated . . .I just put a Loacosta on the back of it . . . Azur Mag: Oh . . . Where did the . . um . . .ok . .I was going to ask you . . .where the brand came from . . .but I think you kind of answered that . . .What were you saying . . .? Slick: Yeah . . pretty much . . .like I said . . .it's pretty much self explanatory . . .you know . . .from being orientated with the street and being affiliated with the street . . you know what I'm saying . . .? So . . .I just pretty much ran with the . . .Sosa thing . . . Azur Mag: Oh . . .ok. . .um. . .When did you record Big Bossom . . that Chris . . B Crumb thing . . .that was good . . . Slick: Uh . . talking about the song Crumb Up? The video . . ? Azur Mag: Yeah . . .Crumb Up . . .It said . . .Big Bossom . .and then it said Chris . . B . . um . . .Crumb Up . . Slick: Yeah . .that's my little brother . . .I don't know if you're familiar with many DC artist . . .but. .that's that Trel artist . . .which he under . . .Central Label . ..which is DC 1135 . . .which is Chris . . .that's Central which is Cristo and it got Big Bucks on there. . .That's just one of my homeboys from around the way . . .All three of us kind of like hooked up. . .and did the track together . . .you know what I'm saying . .? Azur Mag: Oh . . . ok . . because I've been hearing a lot about . .that Trel . .and everything . . . Slick: You know he signed with Maybach music and everything . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . .I was reading wikipedia about that . . . Slick: That's my homeboy . . . Azur Mag: Alright . .what about the sample on . . .Zero to One Hundred Free Style . . .I forgot what sample . . . . .what sample was that? Slick: That's actually . . .ahh. . Drakes . .album . . .ahh . . .song . . .I just did a little free style cover to it . . .That sample is already in the track . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . .who was that again? Slick: The song was, actually, Drakes song . . . Azur Mag: that's a Drake song . .. ok . . .ok . . Slick: I just did a free style over it . . .you know what I'm saying. . .I just did a whole . . .about three . . four minutes of it . . ? Azur Mag: Right . . . Slick: I just ran through it . . . Azur Mag: Alright . .that's cool . . .cause like. . .it sounded familiar . . .I wasn't really sure where it was . . . Slick: I was just doing free style . . here and there . . .and if you do beats . . .then . .we try to kill 'em Azur Mag: Oh . . .alright . . .well . . .Where do you normally record? Slick: I have two base studios . . where . . .you know . .I . . .ahh . . .I have an older brother . . .in his basement - full fledge . . .and I have mine. . .so . .I pretty much go back and forth . . .so . .the main base . . .and then mine . . .so . . . Azur Mag: Ok . . .What do you, normally, record with. . .? Slick: I use Pro-Tools or I use Cubase . . . I don't know if you're familiar with Cubase . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . .Everybody says Pro-Tools . . but . . .you're, actually, the first person to . . .state they use Cubase . . . Slick: So . .I do all my own engineering . . .and everything . . . Azur Mag: What do you master with. . .Do you master . . .with a Cubase software . . or is it Pro-Tools. . .? Slick: Once I finish recording . . .I drop all my material to my oldest brother . . .and he masters it with Pro-Tools . . . Azur Mag: Oh . .cool . . .ok . . .How did you come up with the Snakery Movie concept . . .When did that happen . . ? Slick: You know. . .just me sitting around and me being a writer . . .Just sitting down . .jottin down. . .. . when come up with a story . .but not in the third party . . .you know what I mean . . . .I just sat back and wrote up a little story . . .and . .me doing what I do as far as hip hop and rap . . .I decided to convert it to musical form . . so . .I just went in and start incorporating . . .out here like in DC. . .that's . . .stuff isn't really . . .hard to come about . . .you know what I mean. . .so I just started putting it in story form/musical form . . .and . . .you got that . . .Snakery . . . Azur Mag: Dag . . .so . .you're a writer . . .What do you write about . . .is it like scripts and stuff. . .or is it a lot of songs . . .or. . .? Slick: Um . . .I don't normally do scripts and stories . .but. . .I . .initially . .had it to be a one track song . . .and then . . .the first part . .like.. . the first three or four minutes of it . . .once my homeboys . .you know what I mean . . .my friends. . .said . .I should write a sequal to it . . .and then it became and on going process . . .so . .actually. . .I audio recorded ten new parts . . .for the second half of it . . .I'll just go out to the field and video record it . . .Be looking out . . .for the second half of the movie . . .this fall . . . Azur Mag: Dag . . .alright . . .um . ..What's Sarges Media all about? Slick: That's my video team . . based out in . . .St. Mary's county Maryland . . . Azur Mag: Ahh Huh . . . Slick: I reached out to them for the first half of the movie. . .and it came on down to DC . . . and showed it for me. . .so . .We're like partners . . .you know what I mean. . .so when ever I need something done. . .a good video . .or a good visual . . .they just come to the city and we go to work from there . . . Azur Mag: So . . who is it , again . . .? Is it a guy that you work with? Slick: He has his own videography company called Sarges Media . . . Azur Mag: What's his name? Slick: Vincent Chatmen . .under facebook . . .it's Vincent Chatmen . . . Azur Mag: Oh . . .Vincent Chatmen . . . Slick: Vincent Chatmen . . .He's out of southern Maryland . . .He won a few contest for the best videography from the DMV . .He's been winning for that last two years. . . the best videography . . .media company . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . .yeah . . ok . . . Slick: If you get a chance . . .just reach out to him . . .He's on instagram . . .facebook and everything . . under Sarges Media . . . Azur Mag: Ok . . . Slick: Reach out to him and let him know that . . .Sosa gave a big up . . . Azur Mag: Right . . . Slick: You know what's going on . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . I'll, definitely, check him out . . . . . um . .What about Low Life Entertainment . . .dot . .202.2 Slick: That's my label . . . Azur Mag: That's you. . . Slick: That's my label. . .Low Life Entertainment . . . Azur Mag: Oh . . cool . . .so . .how did you come up with that concept. . .? Slick: Actually, that's my older brother. . . .so . .like . .back in the early 90's . . . him being a big hip hop fan . .him and Felix Conrad . . .they started the company . . .so . .me and my little brother . . .Chris Bo . . .We picked it up. . .and . .kepted it going . . see what I'm saying . .like. . . in the early 2000 . . .we've been running stuff since then. . .so . . .basically . . it's my label . . .as of now. . .my little brother down. . .but that Trel . . .DC 1135 . . .so Low Life is pretty much . . .been running the company on my own . . Azur Mag: Ahh . . so what does your brother do . . ? What did he do, back in the day . . .? Slick: He's an engineer . . .He has his own video outfit . . .called DC Media . . .If you check out. . .if you follow . .a lot of my work . . he has links on . . pretty much all of my work . . .So . .it's easy to make contact with him . . .I can give you all the information . .if you wanna . . .contact him . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . I might do that . . .I don't know.. .I'll try and . . .get information about your brother, too . . .but . .um . . .and then . .um . . .ok . .that's cool . . .so he just. . .passed down the corporation to you . . .or the company to you? Slick: Yeah . . basically . . . Azur Mag: Oh ok . .that's cool .. Slcik: That's, basically, what it is. . .I mean . . .he's still CEO . . .you know . . .and I'm like. . . .we're just partner on that. . .I'm a CEO . . .too . . .but. . .I'm on for the first album on the first label . . so . .you know . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . .so . . that's good. . . Alright . . Any plans for distributing your . . .films. . .I mean .. have you . . .thought about doing that? Slick: I'm still weighing my options as far as. . .I wanna finish the whole project. . . I just . . .I be having offers . . people getting interested in. . .and want a part in it . . .um .. .I run it pass Wiley. . . . They interested . . .he . .interested in it. . . .a few other guys locally and like. . .you know . ..everybody want to be a part in it. . .but . . .I'm not really focusing on that . . .for real . . .I'm focusing on my music . . .but the project is a big part of my career . . .but . . everybody recognize me with the movie Snakery . . .you know what I'm saying . . but .. .I just use it for like a stepping stone, for now,. . .I'm not really into it, now . . .be checking out. .in the near future. . . the whole saga . . .the movie. . . . Azur Mag: Alright . . .so . . .Has anybody tried to invest in you, yet . . or . . .is it you . .pretty much financing the whole thing right now? Slick: I'm not really . . .It's my own money . . it's my own company. . .I've been having my . . .no one has put any serious money . .into backing my . . .career . . .or .. .I pretty much - Azur Mag: - right . . .I pretty like the whole project . . .that whole. . .the film . . .the music . . .the soundcloud and everything . . .is. . . definitely, something that's gonna make. . .something . . .I really like the whole. . .concept . . . Slick: I appreciate that, bro .. . Azur Mag: Yeah . . .yeah. . . so . . .Do you have any last words for your viewing audience? Slick: Everybody . . keep support'n me . . .follow me on the social networks . . .at Slick Sosa . . ahh . . .and keep all the love and keep all the support . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . .definitely .. .most definitely .. . . If you search youtube for Slick Sosa, Snakery . . .you'll find several versions of the movie length video.
