I had the opportunity to meet GrizzDaGod on twitter. He's got the Mario Party series going and I think the collection is a good thing - especially with the African American icon and the fashionable looking play list . . .but, honestly, GrizzDaGod is a contemporary rapper for this age in time. I think he'll appeal to a large audience within the 18 to 27 age range and will offer new listeners a viable choice in audio media and mix tape. I sat down with GrizzDaGod and this is what he had to say . . . . Azur Mag: Where did you come up with the name GrizzDaGod . . ? . . or how did you come up with that name? Grizz: Well . . .GrizzDaGod . . .it was a name that was given to me . . .you know . .being out with my friends . . .and . . .they were always saying I was on my Grizz . . . and it just kind of stuck with me . . .It's just a nick name . . . Azur Mag: Ok . . .How old were you when you got that name? Grizz: I was probably every bit a high school student . . . Azur Mag: You were about 15 . .16 . . .? Grizz: Yeah . .something like that . . .Like . .close to around my junior . .senior year . . . Azur Mag: Alright . . that's cool . . .ahh . . .How long have you been producing music? Grizz: I've . . .actually been executive producing my music since the year of . . .2008 . . . Azur Mag: 2008 . . .ok. . .that's cool . . .How long have you been rapping . .as a rapper . . .about the same length of time. . . ? Grizz: Um . . .rapping was something I was always able to do . . .but I recently took it serious . . I went through an artist development stage . . .with a hip hop . .legendary pioneer . . Super Lover Cee . . . Azur Mag: Who was that, again? Grizz: Ahh . . .Super Lover Cee . . ahh . .he was in a rap group . .. in the 80's . . .with a guy named Calvin . . .They made a hit song called . . .Girl I've Got On Lock . . .and . .Do the Jams. . . . Azur Mag: . . and his name was Super Lover Cee . . .? Grizz: Yes sir . . . Azur Mag: So . .it's spell C.e.e . .at the end . . .? Grizz: Yes . . . Azur Mag: Oh . . ok . .because he was in your bio . . .I just wanted to make sure I had it right . . .Alright . . .how many mix tapes have you produced . . .? Grizz: Um . . well . . .I'm featured on . . .a couple different artist . . .material . . .and as far as my own . . I have Mario Party Series out right now . . .The Trilogy . . .I have . . .Mario Party Vol. 1 . . .Mario Party 2 Commas . .and Mario Party Vol. 3. . .That's my last release . . . Azur Mag: Alright . . .that's cool . .so there's about three of them . .right . . .? Grizz: Yes . . Azur Mag: Alright . . .um . .How do you promote your projects . . .? Grizz: I, mostly, do promotion . . .I use some of the common social media . . .as far as my twitter . . .facebook . . .and . . those are mainly my main tools. . . .I use . . like . .other apps . . .that host music . . .like . . .um . . soundcloud . . .and youtube . . . Azur Mag: Right . .you were talking about facebook and twitter in your bio . .so . . how, exactly, do you use twitter and facebook . . .Do you send out posts . .and stuff like that . . .or . . . Grizz: When I use twitter . . .I stress the hash tag . . .the hash tag is important . . .like two terms . .if you were to read a text book . . .I really stress hash tag . . um . . .and hash tag any thing that's relatable . . .to what I'm saying . . . or . . .a song release that I post on twitter . . .or that I tweet . . .and . .they can just . . .people who are interested . . .in . . .key words . .or those terms . . .be able to link to . .um . ..my tweets . . Azur Mag: . . .ok . .that's smart . .ok . . .Yeah . .I don't really use hash tags . . .but I heard they're really effective . . .ok . .Were you producing music in Norfolk, Va . . .? . . or how old were you when you . . .did that . .? Grizz: Well . .when I was in Virginia . .I was really just . . .ahh . . .living . .and stuff . . .I moved to North Carolina . .Charlotte . . .That's when I had . . .the opportunity . . .to . . .I got physical with the artist development stage with . .um . . .with Supe . .and . . .I was working on . . Azur Mag: Who were you working with, again . . . Grizz: With legendary pioneer . . .Super Lover Cee . . Azur Mag: Oh . .that guy again . . .ok . . .That was mainly in North Carolina . .but what about Norfolk . . .? Grizz: I was just . .really spending childhood years . . .in that area . . .um. . .and . .then I passed through the DMV area . . . .I still have family in that area . . . Azur Mag: Right . . .but it was, mainly, Charlotte, North Carolina . . ? Grizz: Yeah . . .Charlotte is where I . .. .where . . most of my core production . . .and key development . . .and most of that stuff . . .that's where I kind of . .like . .developed . . .as an artist . . .I was . .before . . . I wasn't a rapper . .but . . .people got to know who I am . . .I got into the studio . . .I learned about . . .recording budgets . .and promotion budgets . . .and . .stuff like that . . . Azur Mag: Alright . . .um . . .How would you describe your music . . .? Grizz: How would I describe my music . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . . Grizz: . . .Like . .ahh . .I believe . .ahh. . . .I presented a sound for every one . . .but I, mainly, make music for people . . just to . . .ahh . . . just to enjoy it . . .You know what I mean? . . .I make . . .title like . .theme music . . . or . .I don't want to be labeled as one particular . . .I don't want to be . . like a hard core artist . . .or . .I'm a trap rapper . . .I've been through enough situations in life . .where . . .I kind of touch on all experiences . . .that's connected . . . Azur Mag: Right . . .but who do you think you sound like? Grizz: Um .. .I listen to a lot of Jeezy . . .Young Jeezy . . .I listen to a lot of Young Jeezy . . . Azur Mag: Ok . . . Grizz: . . and a lot of my friends say I sound like Jay-Z . . .um. . . .My family members say I sound like . . .Fabolous. . . Azur Mag: So . .um . .what do you record with . .? Grizz: I recorded off of video editing programs . . .like. . .Vegas . . .I recorded off of . .. um. . . Acid . .Cubase . . .um . .Pro-Tools . . .um. . . Azur Mag: Which one do you like the most? I mean . . do you like Pro-Tools better than Acid . .or . . . Grizz: Ahh . . .it all depends. . . because . . .I work with some engineers who have the Pro-Tools. . .but may not know how to work all the plug-ins. . . .You know what I mean . . .It's . .what ever the button pushing person is comfortable working with . . .What ever they're better at . . or what ever they're nicer at . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . that's my next question . . do you record in someone's studio . . or.. .did you buy your own equipment? Grizz: Um . . .I've recorded in several different studios . . .I've been in a couple different places . . .I really just record the music. . . I bring it some where to get mastered out . . . Azur Mag: So you go to other people's studios . . .is . .that what you're saying . . ? Grizz: Yeah . .as far as mix and mastering. . . . Azur Mag: . .. but you do everything in your own . .home . .or . .what do you do? Grizz: Um . . .I actually do everything in . .um . . .a portable . . .it's . .um . . .I get a mic . . .I lay the vocals . . .To me the most important thing is you lay down the vocals. . .and you can always send the song out to get leveled out . . .and re-mixed and mastered . . . Azur Mag: Right . .so . . .you do all your music and vocals at home . . .and then you take 'em out to different studios to get mastered . . .Is that what you're saying? Grizz: Yes sir . . . Azur Mag: Alright . . .that's cool. . .Alright . . .any last words for your viewing audience? Grizz: I just want my audience to look out for . . .my up and coming projects . . .and . . .um. ..expect me to drop the visuals . . .and follow my social networks . . .for some of the . . uh . . .projects that I have coming out . . .I have . .ahh . . .Back To The Future 2712 coming out . . .um . . a follow up to . . .um . ..Mario Party 4 Commas . . .will be released sometime by the end of the year . . .and then I have EPs ready for release . . .Smoke and Mirrors and the Over Flow . . .
