Dugee F Buller considered himself an old school rapper . . .but I agree with his comparison of him rapping similar to the likes of Kendrick Lamar. His rhymes are fresh and have a certain flow that today's listener will enjoy. Dugee, I believe, has a whole stack of videos he's produced and you'll be able to check him out in the 2nd issue of Azur Magazine - due out around October 18th.

A friend and I were looking at the top reverbnation artists (hip hop . .) in the Washington, DC area and found a guy named Dugee F Buller. My friend really liked his performance and I became a fan, as well . . .He seemed like an intelligent rapper and his beats were quick witted. There were several other guys at the top of the charts who I liked . . but Dugee stood out, that day . .Later . .I got a chance to meet him and realized he had produced about ten music compilations with catchy titles and cool art work. I sat down to talk with Dugee and this is what he had to say . . . Azur Mag: Where did you come up with the name, Dugee F Buller? Is that your real name? Dugee: Yeah . . it's actually Dugee . . .Yeah . .that's my middle name, actually . . .and the "F" Buller part came from my favorite movie . . ."The Day Off" (Farris Buller . . .) Azur Mag: Oh . . ok . .so . . .the F. Buller isn't your real name . . . Dugee: No . . . Azur Mag: Oh . . ok .. . it's . .um . . .yeah . . .Buller . . . Dugee: There might be copyright infringement . . .but I spelled it . . how . . .I mean . . it's not the exact spelling for Buller . . .Thursday . .I got called . .that fool . . .that other fool . .Who's that fool from National Lampoon . . . He was popular for a minute . .that National Lampoon did a movie on . . .I got called a "White Kid" (it was Van Wilder. thats the name of the “white [Caucasian] kid” haha) . . .I talked to my home boy, yesterday. . .and they called me the "Turn Up King" . . .(laughs . .) Azur Mag: (Laughs. . .) Dugee: . . because I was always partying . . .I was always trying to find a way to get over . . .so . . . Azur Mag: Alright. . . . Dugee: That's where all . .the like. . .nick names came from . . .and where the F. Buller came from . . . Azur Mag: Right . .ok . . .um . .it's like the Farris Buller . . .and everything . .? Dugee: Yup . . Azur Mag: Alright. . .What is Losing Freedom Entertainment all about? Dugee: Oh . .um . . .Losing Freedom . . .We came up with the name Losing Freedom . . because . . .we're getting tired. . .well . . .It really means losing free sh*t . . ..Losing free dumb sh*t . . .So . .we were trying to get ourselves away from the market where . . .Like we were giving away our culture . .or identity in buying into certain markets . . .but when you're over saturated with a bunch of dumb sh*t . . . you get to the point to where . . .who's going to be the . . .cop-out in losing free dumb sh*t . . .? So we made Losing Free Dumb Sh*t . . .Entertainment . . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . .alright . .so . . .and your label is based on that . . or that's just your . . .you know . .something you did for fun? . . . . Dugee: That's pretty much what it was based on . . . Azur Mag: Ok . . .um . .What happened at Touche's Supper Club? Is that a club you played at? Dugee: Oh . . .Touche Supper Club . . .I give a shout out to Touche . . .the homies over there . . .We were doing . . .a Stars and Bars over there . . .I linked with The Good People and Black Passion Band . . .and what we were doing was . . .we were doing a show case for artist . . .on Stars and Bars . . .where . .I was hosting it . . .I was doing performances . . .and we . . had some nice artist come through . .We had . . .Troy Black (Bill Money) come through from DC . . .Sars . .we had . .Chummy Chan(Kelley Kash) . .just some local artist . . .some local favorites to come through . . . and perform . . .so yeah . . that's what happened at Touches . . . .That was actually a nice set . . I was upset we didn't stay longer . . .I think they're going to revamp that whole Stars and Bars movement . . .and move it down the street to . . .Bo's Bar . . . Azur Mag: Where is it located . . .? Dugee: It's located on H st. . . .12th and H st. N.E. Washington, DC . . . Azur Mag: Do you gig, often? Dugee: Pretty much . . I at least have a gig twice a month. . . Azur Mag: Twice a month? . . .So is it usually at Touche . . .or. . .do you go to another club . . ? Dugee: Last night I had a gig out in Gaithersburg, MD at a club called El Carbonazo Azur Mag: Yeah . . .I saw that one, too . . . Dugee: Yeah . . the restaurant . . . .I did that one with . . . .I actually performed with a band, out there . . . Azur Mag: Oh . .cool . . .What kind of band do you have. . .Is it like a piano or a keyboard . . .and a drum . . . Dugee: No . . it's actually a Go Go band . . . Azur Mag: Oh really . . . Dugee: . . .ahh. . huh .. . Azur Mag: Wow . . .That's pretty cool . ..Are you associated with any booking agencies, yet . . Dugee: No . .not yet . . . Azur Mag: Oh. .man . .Yeah that's pretty cool . . .Have you played a Hole In the Wall . .or any of those places? . . or have they closed that one down, yet . . ? Dugee: I'll play any clubs that'll work me . . .That has a show. . . .Actually . . .I've done the lowest . . .where . . .I was suppose to perform at a community event that had no mic . . .no speaker . . . Azur Mag: Oh . .they didn't have any mic's or speakers. . .? Dugee: . . .then . . .I, also,. . . performed at the Filmore . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . .the Filmore is suppose to be pretty good . . .or . .from what I hear . . .I don't know much about the Filmore . . . Dugee: It's a very large . .very . . .quality establishment . . . I love performing there . . .This is how I knew it was real . . .I got . . .a dressing room . . .My dressing room had a shower . . .I was tripp'n off the fact that I had a showe in here . . . Azur Mag: Did you get food there . . ? Dugee: Naww . . .I didn't get fed . . .They didn't do that for me . . .I did get a lot of smoke out my room . . .I did do that . . . Azur Mag: (Laughs . . .) . . .Alright . . .I was about to ask you what clubs you normally gig in . . .but you already answered that . . . Dugee: Touche . . .on 12th and H . . .Pure . . on 13th and U . . . .um. . .and then LIV on 11th and U . . . Azur Mag: . . .and then . .El . . what was that one called. . . Dugee: The El Carbonazo . . .I had to learn the name, yesterday . . .because I had to . . get it right on stage . . .the bar tender had to yell back at me . .El Carbonazo . . . Azur Mag: (Laughs . . ) . . .Alright . . .How was it recording with Fresh Garcia and . . Joey D . . are they together . . or . . .are they separate people . . .? Dugee: Oh . . Joe D is a producer . . .that works a lot with God'silla . . . .and he's based out of Atlanta . .but he's . . from Clinton, MD . . .He like . .the big homie . . .He likes my sound . .and says . .here Dugee . . here Dugee . . I've got something for you . . .and everytime he throws me a beat . . he gets it right back . . .and . . . he's one of the people I know that . . if I throw a freestyle . . .or . .an industry beat . . .I can send him the A Capella . .and he'll . . .work it . . .with an original organic beat . . . Azur Mag: Who was that again . . .Was that Joey D . . or Fresh Garcia ? Dugee: Oh . .that's Joey D . . .He's somebody I went to college with . . . Azur Mag: Oh . . . .So . .you're associated with God'silla? . . . Dugee: Yes . . . Azur Mag: How did you meet them? Dugee: . ..My fresh homie . . .(My Uncle) Dion . . he went to school with . . He was like. . .yeah Dug . . .I know you like to rap . . so. . .my home boys rap . . .Come to find out . . .they were God'silla . . .and . . I sat down . .and got to working with them . .and they listened to me . . .Oh yeah . . we like you . . .we like you, Young Soldier . . .so . . .they put me on . . and I've been hanging with them ever since . . . Azur Mag: Dag . . . Yeah . .they got signed to some label . . .but I forgot who it was . .Do you remember? . . . Dugee: They got signed to Hip Not Records . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . Hip Not . .That's what it was . . .Yeah . . .their videos were doing really well . . .or . .still are . . .I guess . . .and . . they had that one video . .that . . .was filmed really well . .it was of a live show . . . Dugee: Oh . . .with Sean Price?. . .Survivor. . .? Azur Mag: Yeah . .that's it . . .Right . .right . . .So . .do you actually perform with them . .or . . Dugee: Yeah. . . I performed with them . .a couple times . . . Azur Mag: Oh man . . . .Did you open for them . .or they open for you. . . ? . . .or was it a mutual thing . . . Dugee: I opened for them . . .I've got no power . . They've got all the power . . . Azur Mag: (Laughs . . .) Dugee: (Laughs . .). . . Azur Mag: Ok . .How would you describe your type of hip hop . . .? I noticed you had decribed hip hop as having several genres . . . Dugee: Yeah . . .I mean . . I don't know . . .I like to call it reality . . .I like to call it . .ahh . . this is what I call it . .it's elegant ratchette rapp'n . . . .so . . if I were going to rap for the first time . .I'd do elegant rap . . . Azur Mag: So . . .you say the tone of your album is 1988 to 1994 . . .I was just wondering if you could explain that . .or if you could elborate a little bit more on that . . .I guess . . your album had the feel of albums made durign this point in time . . between 1988 to 1994 . . .? Dugee: Yeah . . um . . .Actually. . . .that's every album . . every album has. . .a golden age hip hop feel . . . .It sounds like that . .because . . .I like RunDMC . . .and KoolMoe D . . .I like LL Cool J. . . . I like . . .Rakim. . .I like early Jay-Z . . .I like . .Boot Camp Click . .I like Tribe Called Quest . . .I make music that sounds like. . .if that was the influence . . .um. . .The crazy thing is . . .even thought they are the influence . . .a lot of people say I sound like Big Krit. . .and Kendrick Lamar. . .at this point . . .in my career . . .I'm blessed to have that kind of association . . .maybe because I listen to a lot of Pimp C . . .I grew up on a lot of south music . . .and that's what my area listens to . . . Azur Mag: Yeah .. Kendrick Lamar is kind of like a theatrical rapper . . .It's like a stage show you're listening to . . .or . .that's how I view it . . .Talking about. . .to Pimp a Butterfly . . . Dugee: Yeah . . that's a damn near movie . .for real . .for real . . . Azur Mag: That's just how I look at it. . . .I could be wrong . . .but . .I mean . .it was kind of like a theatrical . . .thing . .where . .you're presented . . .with all sorts of characters. . .and all sorts of . .scenarios . . . inside each song . . .and then he's got . .background singers . . .and all sorts of musicians playing . . . Dugee: . .and that's the whole movement, right now . . .We're trying to make audio book . . .via rap music . . .If I can't sit down and light candles and incense . . .smoke a "J" . . .or two . . .or at least sit with something to your album . . .then there's no reason why I'm listening to you . . .cause . . .I'm wasting my time . . trying to listen to something . . .that I'm not going to enjoy . . .that's not going to have the theatrics . . .That's the point, now. . .right now . .it's time to make music . .that . . if I were to present it to a live show . . .it would be like an opera . . . Azur Mag: Yeah . . . Dugee: . . .so there would be a problem . . .There's no reason not to make a cohesive sounding album . . .or a quality project . . . Azur Mag: Right . .that's what I'm talking about. . . There's some kind of cohesion in your work . . .and Kendrick Lamar's work . . .that might be a theatrical thing .. . . Dugee: . . just like Moet and Mad Dog . . . Azur Mag: What was that . .about Mad Dog? . . Dugee: I have an album called Moet and Mad Dog . . .That's part of the elegant rap music . . . and I call it Moet and Mad Dog . .because . . .it's the most elegant ranchette music you'll ever listen to . . .and . .it plays out like a movie. . . and . .that's where I think I got the Kendrick . .comparison from .. . and then every one listened to God Don't Like Ugly. . .and we're like.. .this is like a Kendrick album . . .so . .show me what you'all got . . .and this is just how I came to be with all my work . . .because. . .all my early work . . .it just sounds good . .but it had no cohesiveness . . .it didn't correlate . . . it was just a bunch of random songs . . . It was . . just a bunch of random songs. . . Azur Mag: Right . . . Dugee: . . .but now that I'm more mature . . . I've tried to understand what type of sound I want . . .I'll do random songs . . .but I'll do random songs for other things . . .but . . .they will never make a project . . .cause the project has to have . . .something that I know . .just . .goes with this. . . . Azur Mag: Right. . .right . . .How many albums have you made , so far . . .? Dugee: I think I'm on . . .I've got . . .ten mix tapes and three albums . . . . Azur Mag: Oh . . ok. . . . Dugee: . .but . . .don't I have three albums? . .Is it three? . . .Yeah . . three . . . Azur Mag: What do you record with . . .is it . . .Pro-Tools . . .or . . . Dugee: Um . . . .depending on which studio I go to . . .Two were done with Cool Edit Pro . .and Moet and Mad Dog was done with . .Pro-Tools, Logic , and Reason . . . Azur Mag: What was that software you used. . .again . . . Dugee: Cool Edit Pro . . . Azur Mag: Cool Edit Pro? Dugee: Yes . . . Azur Mag: How much was that one? . . .Was that a free software . . .or . . Dugee: Yeah. . . .It's a free recording software . . .and it's pretty good if you've got . . .a mic . .and all you have to do is have quality . . mic . . .If you don't have no quality mic. . .it's a waste of time. . . Azur Mag: . . .and you did all your beats on that thing . . ? Dugee: No . . I didn't do any of my beats . . .My beats came from . . .product 81' 92', Fresh Garcia . . .Little Boy fresh . . .and . . .Trees . . . and for Moet and Mad Dog . .that was . . Misfit District . . Joe D . . .Little Boy Fresh . . .um. . . Jus Misfit . . .made about 5 beats on that joint. . . Azur Mag: So . . you had a lot of producers who helped you out with a lot of beats . . . and you came up with lyrics for each song . . .and everything. . . Dugee: Ahh. . .yeah . . .That's usually how it happens. . . Azur Mag: Ok . . Any last words for your viewing audience? Dugee: Oh . . I love y'all . . .I love you . . .That's pretty much it . . .I'm excited to have new listeners and fans . . .People paying attention . . .it makes me feel good to know. . .that . .I'm just not doing it . .just for my health . . .(laughs . . ) . .I actually got . . people to connect to the music . . .I'd like to thank you for supporting me from the east coast to the west coast . . .Connecticut . . .all the way to California . . .Thank you so very much . . .
